Today we come to you with 5 cool Android hacks or hidden tricks that you might be unaware of. These tricks are useful in day to day life. So, without further ado, let’s begin and see what these are.
Get notified about free Wi-Fi
Nowadays, open Wi-Fi networks are available everywhere, especially in hotels and restaurants, malls, public gardens, etc. So, why not make the most use of it. Your Android phone will notify whenever an open network is available. For this, in Settings, go to Wi-Fi settings. And, under Network notification, click that little switch that says “Notify whenever the public network is available.” That’s all… Enjoy free WiFi.
Control what your phone does with your Wi-Fi
We all have selected that option where you want certain tasks like downloading a video or an app update to occur only when a Wi-Fi network is available. Who wants to use mobile data for that? But what happens if you have limited Wi-Fi data? You don’t want to waste that on some stupid video or an unnecessary update.
Well, that’s what our next hack is for. Go to Settings -> Data Usage -> Network Restrictions.
Under the metered Wi-Fi networks, you’ll find the names of all the networks that your phone gets connected with. Select those networks which have limited data. So, now whenever you will be connected to a network that comes under a metered network, app updates won’t take place.
Handle notifications like a Pro
The next trick is for those who are close to having a headache due to the constant pinging sound of the notifications. Now, you don’t have to listen to the notification ping or even receive a notification at all. And all this can be handled from a single place for all your apps.
Go to settings->Notifications
Here, you’ll see a list of all the apps on your phone. For any app, you can select from the given four options:
- Show silently: brings notification to your phone but without any sound.
- Block all: blocks all the notification for the given app.
- On the lock screen hide sensitive information: makes sure that your messages or part of the message are not displayed in the notification. This becomes useful for chatting apps like Whatsapp, Hangouts, etc.
- Override Do Not Disturb: as the name suggests, the app will be able to make calls and SMS to your phone even if you have DND activated for your number. You surely don’t want to miss any message from your banking app or your mobile wallet.
Trusted Places
There are certain places where you know your phone is safe from prying eyes and tampering fingers. These are the trusted places and you can be free from entering your security pattern or other smart locking feature here.
Go to Settings ->Security->Smart Lock->Input your current pattern->Add Trusted Places
You can add a location in Trusted Places using Google Maps. And give a name.
Now, you won’t have to enter your lock pattern while you are at any of your trusted places.
Inbuilt File Explorer
Suppose you need to look up a certain photo or document and you don’t have a file explorer app. Then, this trick will help to browse through all the images, videos, documents, etc. and also through all the folders of your phone just like any other file Explorer app.
Go to Settings->Storage->Internal Storage/ SD card whatever you want to explore
Here you get all the images and documents and music and whatnot. You can further explore app-wise by selecting Explore.
